Schatzie (Black) & her new Mommy (Teri)

Teri, from BC Canada, came to IN! :)
Dearest Riggs Family, I feel so blessed!
(Schatzie just added all of those spaces and I don't have the heart to delete her first attempt at an email.) Schatzie travelled sooo well! Delta didn't ask for my ID let alone anything for Schatzie! She was like a movie star going through the airports. People were taking pictures and talking to her through her kennel. The security guards came around from the baggage security to get her autograph! She didn't mess her kennel at all but you would have had a good laugh, Daphne, if you could have seen me in the airplane washroom. I would take her in there and cover the floor with puppy pads. Then I'd have to sit on the toilet lid hugging my knees so that she could scurry around in circles to do her business. It was so funny! It was such a positive experience that Schatzie told me that she might want to be a pilot when she grows up. The border was relatively easy. They checked all of the paperwork closely but they also could tell that she was a movie star and she melted all of their Canadian border patrol hearts. My husband is so pleased! Not only is she beautiful, she really has been raised so beautifully! She walked into our home and went straight over to Chance and gave him a kiss. It's been a long time since Chance has had any female attention and he's loving it! I am so glad I could come and visit yesterday. I wish I could have stayed longer and met everyone. Thank you Riggs family for giving so much love to Schatzie. We can tell that she's had 8 fabulous weeks of joy and attention and we will be sure that she continues to have a life filled with lots of love! Now I'm crying! Thank you again! Love and blessings to you all, Teri-Lynn ps. Thank you Daphne for the picture! My husband couldn't believe that I didn't take any pictures....but that hour went by so quickly! I told him that I was much too busy trying to pass my inspection from Mollie:) Also, thank you for that muffin and doughnut! I got SO lost with all of the construction around the airport that I didn't have time to get anything to eat:)

Update on Schatzie 2012: Hi Daphne , Schatzie is so fabulous! She's brave and so willing to please! I'm not the kind of person to compare my puppy with other people's puppies because I find that kind of pridefulness very unbecoming. lol However, if I were the kind of person to compare Schatzie to the other puppies in her kindergarten class, I would say that she is the SMARTEST in her school! This week, when we had the little game portion of our class, one owner said "come on...let's go stand by Schatzie because she has such nice manners." That's a true story. (There are so many of those kinds of stories that I could tell you; and can you see how prideful that would sound if I were to tell you all of that?? I'm glad I'm not that kind of petty woman :) lol ~Otto Family~ BC Canada

Ava

Ava is growing up!!
Hi Daphne, Would you please give us the brand name and dose of the heartworm pill (Interceptor) and flea medication (K9 Advantix) that you gave Ava? Also what is "STT" in the "Parasite Control Record" that was administered on 10/12/11? The vet said it could stand for a treatment or abbreviation for a medicine. He would like to make sure what she received. Anyway, she weighed in at 3.7 lbs and did not wimper at all when she got her injection. The vet said that you must be a good breeder by looking at her medical record and the fact that she was so sociable. He said he never saw a liver mini Schnauzer before and was happy to see one. He said her heart sounded good and we have to take a stool sample back tomorrow. We told him that we visited your house and that the puppies interacted with you and your children and the other pets and that we were very impressed. Ava is playing and running up a storm. I picked my grandaughter up from school as I do 3 times every week and she is having a ball playing with Ava. Of course Ava does not know a stranger. I registered her chip on both sites and the vet loaded her into his system. As cute as she is, we do not want to take any chances of loosing her. I know it was hard for you to give the Ava up, but rest assured she is in a loving home and will get the best of food, care and attention. You and your family are always welcome to visit and as soon as I get time to read up on my camera, we will send photos of our (your family and ours) little girl. Please use us as references as we could not be more pleased. Thanks Bob and Lana Weiss

Gunner

His nose & feet pads are brown (not black).
This is a picture of Gunner & his new owner Faith. :) Our friends bought Gunner from us when he was a puppy. They adore him & I enjoy seeing him all of the time. They came over for me to teach them how to groom him. They also have a Salt and Pepper from Bristol (now spayed) & Zach's first & only litter. Gunner has a thick coat & he is a dark Liver. He has a very good personality, sweet temperament, & potty trained before he turned 5 months old. They asked me to share his picture on my website (we may use him as a stud in the future too).
Lucy

Hey there, just wanted to let you know that Lucy is still doing great. She's doing really well with her tricks. She is great with sit, and good at lay down, come, and stay. She's also doing pretty well with potty training. She's a very smart dog! We have been taking her on walks and she just loves to eat the grass. Sometimes she... will be chasing after a ball, but will get distracted when she runs into a dandelion. Then she has to stop and attack it! Silly puppy! She's very playful and friendly. She's getting pretty big too! But anyways, just wanted to let you know that Lucy is happy and healthy : )

Lucy at 6 months old and pictured above

Here is our lucy baby. C: i hope you enjoy the vids along with the pics. She is really getting big. She also LOVES the camera which makes photography fun.Lucy fits in really well with our family. Even with the cat(Sadie) who tolerates her pretty well. She does amazing when she gets her shots at the vets. She doesnt even flinch! Probley because the vet gives her a treat at the same time. She loves to pounce on things with her lil white butt sticking in the air. She even plays soccer with me. We are thinking about getting her an agility kit. Since she seems to catch on to everything we teach her.And it'd probley be fun for both of us. Her tricks are coming along great, she knows how to jump, sit, tunnel, stay,go to -insert anyones name here), roll over and play dead. We are still working on bow. And eventually we want to teach her "drop and give me ten". When it was storming the other day she thought the sky was growling at her and started barking, she wasnt scared at all just interested and confused. She loves to tunnel under blankets or under bed between couches sometimes. She has become a mighty hunter...of insects. Many a grasshopper has met his end by her. But she is to friendly I think to hunt anything else. She loves to try to imitate what you do. Like while we are out picking cherries or peaches she starts picking up the ones on the ground. When I was fixing up a garden for shadow (the dog we had before her) she helped dig up the dirt and chew on the weeds. Almost all her baby teeth are out. So she will be getting her teeth brushed even more. Which is something she loves, she even grabs at the toothbrush and tries to do it herself. She is unbelievably amazing thank you so much for letting us have such a puppy Daphne. I am so grateful.
Lucy (Christmas tree decorating)

Lucy was very fascinated by the ornaments. lol
She is so sweet.
We had a house full of people yesterday and she was loving all of the excitement.

Gus

It's love at first sight! I can't believe what a wonderful personality Gus has. He's much calmer than I imagined a puppy would be. What a lover, too. I think that's because you and your family took such good care of him and got him off to a great start. We'll try our best to follow through and we thank you very, very much! Gus helped me do laundry this morning and helped John plant some flowers around the deck. He takes EVERY step we take! Love it! Here he is in his little bed (purchased for Gus by my students) and then a photo of one of the first encounters with one of our cats. If looks could kill!? HA!! Actually, they've been nose to nose a few times with no hisses or growls. This is a very laid back cat (the other one isn't!) so they might be friends after all. Gus would LOVE that! I like this picture because it shows how tiny Gus is (the cat is 5 years old and weighs somewhere around 10 lbs, I think) Still, we're saying "no" when he looks toward the cats - just to be safe and make sure. Time will tell on that one! Thanks again. We'll stay in touch! Gus and Us
5/27/2011: I promise that I won't be bugging you every week, but I can imagine that Gus (and the other puppies) have been on your mind! We've had a GREAT week together. Wonderful comments from my Vet. She (and her whole staff) fell in love with him and carried him around getting lots of puppy smooches. It made for an extra long appointment, but that's fine with me! I know it's their "job" to love animals, but I think they had extra love for Gus. They loved his name, too and made up nick names on the spot (Gusiford, Gus-Gus, Gustav...) It's just one of those puppy cuteness things. He weights 5.7 now and she said he's as healthy as can be (but of course continues to be dewormed) We go back in 3 more weeks for more shots and boosters, etc. We have a schedule! The other big news is that I took Gus to my end of the year party for the 5th grade choir choir and handbells (about 60 kids) We went to a local fun center for go carts and mini golf. John dropped him off at the party for about the last 20 minutes and the kids loved him. Everyone took turns petting, kissing, walking, touching him and Gus loved it. He was so calm and his tail jwagged a mile a minute. Once again, I give you all the credit for getting him off to a great people start! You would've been proud of him. He was exhaused when we came home. He fell asleep in the car (just like a baby) and we only live a few minutes away. That didn't take long. Potty training is...well - you know. Actually, he's doing quite well. It's really the people that need to be trained! He doesn't like to go out in the torrential rains we've had the last few days, but neither do we! A couple of accidents with pee, but absolutly no poo accidents (that we've found or smelled - HA!) He goes to the door quite a bit of the time and has his place in the yard. When he's done....back he trots! I hope it will only go more smoothly when school is finished. We've been able to share days coming home at lunch time and my daughter (who also works but lives near by) helped us on one day. Just a few more days and we're home free for the summer. So that's the news from Crown Point. Just wanted to ease your mind and let you know he's in a home that loves, loves, loves him! Cynthia

Gus and Us... -- Gus at about 6 months old

Hi Daphne! I hope you, your family, and all the schnauzers are doing well. I saw on your website that you're expecting some new puppies. I know they'll be as great as Gus is. He is a joy! I'd like to ask your opinion about some grooming issues. I just don't know what to say to the groomer when we take Gus in for his trim. We've only done it once since he's been home with us, and I wasn't all that thrilled with the cut. We're trying some one new that was recommended by our vet. I want him to still look like a puppy (he is sooooo adorable) but he needs a good trimming. I want him to look like a schnauzer, but when I said that to the first groomer, he came back almost totally shaved (or so it seemed) except for the skirt and his face. Is that what I should expect? I definitely mentioned not to shave the hair above his nose (I remember you said that!) Your dogs looked so great -but of course - look at who your groomer is. :-) Perfect. How often should I have him groomed? Maybe I'm just not explaining what I want to the groomer with the right words. Maybe all of this will come with more experience, but if you could give me a few more pointers as a new pet owner, I'd appreciate it. I'd be happy if you could suggest a website that helps explain it. Whatever! Here's another photo of Gus. Hard to believe he's 5 months old already. He's lost his little puppy teeth (we found them all over the place). We've been taking puppy class - beginning obedience - and he is SMART! Seriously, everyone must say their dog is the smartest ...but Gus really is. Sit. Stay. Come. Wait (while we open the door do he doesn't bolt out - very helpful) He can do a beautiful loose leash walk and heels on command. I even taught him a few things just for fun - give me your paw (high 5!) and to roll over. That is so funny to see him flip over! Potty training has been a BREEZE this summer. Very very few accidents in the house. Seriously, he is just the best. Best of luck with the new litter. Give Zach and Mollie an extra hug from their son, Gus! Do you hear from the other 2011 litter adoptive parents? I wonder how Gus's brothers and sisters are getting along. I just know that we're lucky to have Gus with us. Thanks for any advise you can pass along! Cynthia

I see that Mollie and Zack are going to be parents again! We can't tell
you how much we love Gus (from the 2011 March litter). Hard to believe he'll be a year old next week! It seems like he's been with us forever! I'm attaching a 1st birthday photo collage of Gus with two current pictures and a photo from his first days with us. Don't you think he looks like his daddy? He is a cuddler and such a sweet dog. I'm so thankful he's come into our family.
Best wishes with the new puppies and to the new adoptive parents.

Mollie jr. (Black & Silver) Zach & Mollie's Puppy

I want to thank June, Guy and Family for allowing us to puppysit Mollie jr while they went on vacation. They drove two hours one-way to make sure Mollie was in an environment she felt safe and comfortable. June and her son stayed late the day they picked Mollie up, to learn how to groom their puppy. We had a great time and I look forward to seeing them again soon! This is a picture of Mollie jr (in middle) and her family taken at my house another visit this fall of 2011 at 6 months old.
The Adams family (Black & Silver) (my parents)... LACEY

I gave this little puppy to my parents. My Mom says Lacey sits by the door when she needs out BUT like any puppy -- don't wait to long or you will have a mess to clean up. This is a picture I took while baby sitting Lacey and She was 12 weeks in this picture.

I also get to maintain a relationship with LACEY

This is Lacey at 8 months old. She is midnight black and her silver is bright and pretty. She is on the smaller side and should reach the minimum AKC standard for size, which is 12 inches and 12 pounds.
Bryer (Black & Silver) The Taylor's posted this picture on Facebook...

The Taylor family adopted my only male puppy from 2010. The Taylor's jumped in with both feet... just a few days prior to picking Brier up, they adopted a little male Shih Tzu too! The Taylor's are spoiling these two little puppies and I heard these little sweeties chewed up some drywall... which is a part of owning a puppy.
